Going to shoot a show at a bar in lowlight - seeking tips...

Any advice on how to get great images?

I will be using my faithful Sony Cybershot point and shoot. I need to capture the artists in lowlight, my Sony Cybershot takes really neat pictures. I mean how hard could it be, just press the shutter. My camera has a mode for lowlight, it should work?

Your gallery tells me you have a a7s why not use that?

I think my Cyber Shot gets better images but yes the A7S works well.

Is this thread for real?

The Cyber Shot is so small and easy to sneak in.


I did take both, and I think the Cyber Shot images look better then the A7S but that is subjective. The Cyber Shot was definitely easier to use.

If you like your cyber shot better can I have your a7r?

I had the Sony 28mm on the A7R and it didn't do well, I found 28mm to not have enough reach. I do like my Cyber Shot better but I cant switch lenses like I can on the A7R MII.

Put the camera in low light mode, make sure the camera lens (the round thing) is pointing toward the other person, and mash the button. How hard can it be?

That's exactly what I did and my Cyber Shot gave me this image, though I did shoot it with the black and white creative filter turned on.

Those numbers are better than the bar shows I shoot. Must have had some light. Mine would usually be more like 160th, f2.8, iso 12,000-25,600.

f/2 is helping me some, my image was darker or more underexposed and I bring it up in post.

Sometimes I go lower the 1/160 but try and stay there if the artists are moving which they typically are. But like you I will have to at times increase ISO.


In this image I went up to ISO3200 as this guy was standing in a dark corner. My Cyber Shot gives me some room to bring up the shadows in post.

Thank you. The little Sony is very easy to sneak in. Some Venues I go to don't allow 'professional cameras' but don't seem to mind my little harmless Cyber Shot.
