Sigma is really working hard, good for us so we don't get controlled with native brands only.

Imagine having a focal range coverage of almost 18 to 100 with an aperture of 1.8! Too bad it's probably going to be out of my budget... Canon EOS 80D

Feb 21, 2016 03:18 | #7 It does look very interesting, just hope it doesn't have focus issues. But comparing it to a full frame lens on a full frame camera, it will have the same range and depth of field as 80-180 f2.8 but in a smaller package, with a +1 stop advantage for stopping action. JarvisCreativeStudios Goldmember More info | Feb 21, 2016 03:44 | #8 Am I the only one who doesn't see much of a market for this lens? While I applaud Sigma continuing to shake up the lens market, to me this appears to be a more expensive version of what they already have. The Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO (so many letters!) is one of, if not the best aps-c dedicated mid to telephoto zoom lens on the market. This new lens is 50mm shorter on the long end, doesn't appear to have image stabilization like the 50-150, and will cost $500 more. The only offering it has is 1.8 over 2.8, and at those telephoto distances you will get more light but the blur and bokeh will be unnoticed. Even if this new version is sharper, it will be minimal because the sharpness on the 50-150 is amazing. Maybe they're trying to shake up sales, because I don't think the 50-150 sold that well (it's never really talked about on forums), but if it didn't sell, I don't know why they think the 50-100 will at a 50% higher price point and 50% less reach and no IS. Maybe the sales will be good just because of the A on the side. WEBSITE

More info | Sigma have dropped the 50-150 from the range, although there are some left on shelves. I would have liked to see a Global Vision version of that lens, with the OS. The f/2.8 would have done me really. I see my perfect lens line up being the 10-18 STM as I don't really do lots of UWA. The 18-35 Art, a 50-150 and the 150-600. That would cover just about every situation I could think of.

The 50-100 at f/1.8 is ideal sounding for portraits on crop, but still leaves a big gap to the 150-600's that would need filling with a 70-200. Since I am often FL limited at even 600mm on a APS-C body (needing to do an additional 1.5× crop very often) a 35mm format body is a non starter, except maybe a 5DS. Alan That's odd that they dropped it, considering the last (and best) rendition was released in 2012. Must have really sold poorly. Which is a shame because I know people who owned the lens loved it and I've seen beautiful pictures posted from it. It was often compared to the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II in crop FL and IQ. WEBSITE

Feb 21, 2016 07:51 | #12 This would be a great indoor sports lens. I primarily use my 85 f1.8 now and the 50-100 range is perfect. f2.8 is too slow for my liking on my 7D and indoor sports, so I never considered the old 50-150mm or 70-200mm. OS would have been nice, but ss should be high enough to not be much of a concern.

And because it was invisible to the market and lacked the "A", it took months to sell mine when I switched to FF. It was a superb lens, and nary a soul knew it. That's a real shame. I used the 50-150 a few times, but regretted never buying it when I used to shoot 7D. I wonder if the sigma 85 1.4 lenses have seen a decline in sales due to no A. I've never used them but heard they were fantastic as well. WEBSITE

Feb 21, 2016 16:33 | #15 I am kind of surprised they didn't make this a 35-85 and maybe give up a 1/3rd stop or a 35-70/1.8. I think that would have paired well with their 18-35/1.8. Still this could pair very well with my 17-50/2.8. Canon 7D/350D, Σ17-50/2.8 OS, 18-55IS, 24-105/4 L IS, Σ30/1.4 EX, 50/1.8, C50/1.4, 55-250IS, 60/2.8, 70-200/4 L IS, 85/1.8, 100/2.8 IS L, 135/2 L 580EX II, 430EX II * 2, 270EX II.
