Lightroom 6 Troubles

Folks i decided to download LR6 from the Adobe site, after it was downloaded into my downlaod folder, the first thing i did was to uninstal my other LR5.7 to save the two conficting, i then opend and correctly installed the LR6 version.
When it was nealy finished it asked me to log in/register and tried to get me to load in a key number, or accept the 30 day trial, the trial i accepted - but then after finding out LR6 was still no good for my new Lumix FZ300, i was led to the Adobe update section and under the LR6 - LR6.1 etc section i pressed to install the update, several moments later the install was complete but - to my horror it was not LR6.1 or LR6.3 but a version called CC 2015.4 and as far as i understand is a mobile app for mobile phones.

I tried to do a system restore on my laptop to get rid of this so called update, but it could not - it uninstalled the whole LR6 instead leaving me with no Lightroom at all, after doing a back peddle in Restore o got lightroom back but still the CC version, and i assume not Panasonic Lumic FZ300 profile RAW compatable?

I have been in live chat with Adobe for over two hours to try to sort this out, as to my mind it is a problem in there download/update center that had caused this problem, not to mention a starain on my limited Data allowance as i am limited each month with a cap on data usage, i said to the manager that if this had been sorted i would have prepared to pay for the key for the Full version if it was Lumix FZ300 RAW compatable and not megga megga expensive.

What can i do folks - will my Panny FZ300 work with this CC 2015 version, and will it be worth paying for the Key?

My sympathy - I've been messed about far too often by trial versions and customer service dept's of similar complex software.

To me, time is valuable and if possible I prefer not to rely on huge downloads and complications of trial versions. I bought LR6 on disc from Amazon (I think currently about US$170), since updated it with downloads to current 6.4, and it works just fine with my FZ1000, so it should be OK with your FZ300. You might consider cutting your losses (of time and money) and do the same.

What you have is the full version of LR, but it's the subscription version, that is £9.99/month complete with PSCC 2015. You should be able to go to a version of the perpetual licence version of LR6 with latest camera support, but Adobe make it difficult to find, as they want to move everyone to the subscription model. When you speak to Adobe you need to tell them that you are after the perpetualy licenced LR6 update, not CC.

CC is the full LR as is 6.3, and they both, I think, come with access to the Android/iOS mobile app too. Actually I recall seeing somewhere that the LR mobile app is now free to anyone with an Adobe ID regardless of what other Adobe products you have.

I am tempted to go with the £9.99 a month subscription - what do you folks think? i am on the 30 day trial at the moment, and assume towards the end of this i will get a notice to quit or accept the subscription?

I think it's cheaper in the long run to buy the disk. Subscribe, and you'll be paying forever. Figure it out, and you'll probably realize why Adobe likes the subscription model.

Would DXO Optics Pro 10 be any better, it has the FZ300/330 profile being added in March?

You could say the same thing about mortgages. While the subscription-only plan still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I inevitably adopted it, recognizing both its pros and cons. For anyone leaning heavily on LR for edits with only occasional use of PS, I suggest LR + GIMP as an alternative. There's still the question of how long Adobe will continue to offer LR as a standalone app.

I was happy with the full version of 5.7 i had and it worked great on my previous gear, but now i have the new FZ300 on the way, i need 6.1 minimum, i deleted my 5.7 so thats gone for good.

DXO is possibly in the mix as a friend of mine has one on disc the full vr 10 but i would have to wait till March for the FZ300 to come online with it.

A few facts to help you decide:
LR 6.x and and LR 2015.x (currently 6.4/2015.4) are actually the same program derived from the same downloaded installer. At the end of the trial period you will have to either buy a subscription, which will allow you to continue with 2015.4 with all its features and to receive new features as they are released, or to buy a serial number in order to serialize it (an upgrade number will do since you have 5.x) at which time all the new features that were added in 2015.1, 2015.2, 2015.3 and 2015.4 will disappear and you will be left with 6.4. Both versions will have the latest camera and lens support.

But as far as I'm concerned, the LR question is the minor part of the equation when you consider that you get the full and latest version of PS for the same monthly subscription fee, an app that is worth ten times the value of LR. And if you think you don't need it, don't make that judgement until you have used it for a while.

No, you would need the LR 5 number.
But it (the number) is probably still in your Registry and can be recovered from there.
Also, any previous LR number (versions 1 through 5) qualifies you for the upgrade price for LR6.x

Why? You have lost all the edits you made to your pictures and also any key-wording that you added to them.
Also when you installed LR6 it would have imported your catalogue from LR5.
You would also have been able to upgrade to LR6 instead of paying the full price.

No, uninstalling the application does not touch the catalog file (*.lrcat) which is entirely separate (by default it is in the Pictures folder) and which is where the edits, etc. are stored and which could still be used with a new LR 5.7.1 installation. And the old catalog can still be copied and converted to an LR6 catalog, so he hasn't lost anything.
