I am shopping around, and have found the simplicity and cost of the Sekonic L-308 to be quite attractive.

I discovered two versions of this basic meter, but I cannot tell what is the difference. Can anyone tell me what the basic difference is between the Sekonic L-308S-U ($200) and the Sekonic L-308S 401-309 ($159)?

Also, any comments on the value of this make/moder would be appreciated.

Thanks, all . . .

Demonic has a complete graph on their website that shows every feature of every model. I posted it in a couple of threads in this sub forum. If I weren't on my phone (as evidenced by my in ability to type s e k o n i c) id search for the link. It was easy to find though.

:D

Heya,

I went through this same process recently. Here was my thread and those who helped me decide: (Link).

I can't seem to find what the difference is between the 308S and 308S-U. But I gather it's not very much, maybe just a firmware difference or something as the layout and all is the same.

I ultimately went with the next model, the the L-478D. It does more (flash % ratios, etc) and has the ability to become a spot meter, etc. I got mine off Amazon used, so it was basically $200 when I bought it. Which was only a wee bit more than a brand new 308S, and about the same price as the older 358 that everyone raves about.

Very best,

I did notice that the $158 model was first offered in 2011(?), and the $200 model was first offered 1 Feb 2016, so I'm guessing that it might be just be an upgraded version of the same model, and the old one is still for sale until stocks are depleted.

As I understand it (from discussions in other places), the U means it's made for the US market.
