5D banding

There is a significant amount of banding here. Other than a little USM no post processing was done.

I'm at a loss for words..

banding? never heard of it. very interesting colors and quite abstract. not sure if it is for me though. it did make me look twice though

This is the reflection of an incandescent light bulb from a radial diffraction grating. The grating is part of a child’s toy. The child is supposed to look through it for starburst kaleidoscope effect. Photographs though it were ho-hum. Reflections from it were a little more interesting.

This is the digital photography equivalent of splashing paint on the wall.

I don't see anything that I would call banding - what I see is more like multiple exposures.

BTW, just in case anyone wants to get into the issue of "banding" -
I have seen what I call "banding" when my cheap printer is trying to do a decent B&W print. I get very noticeable horizontal striping that I call "banding".

Then, there is the "banding" that is better called "posterization" which usually results from converting from many color palette to a lesser palette with fewer colors - also occurring as a result of too much jpg compression. The areas of "same level" or "same value" get large enough to be noticeable - sometimes it just shows up as clumps that shouldn't be and sometimes it looks like a poster painted with only one shade of each color.

It wasn’t intended to be a serious complaint. It was intended as a spoof on the complaints of banding in other forums. This “banding” is simply the effect achieved bouncing an incandescent light off a diffraction grid which gave the banded rainbow effect. It is a single exposure.

I apologize for wasting the time of the serious photographers. It was just intended to be a little comic relief. Some people have reported banding on the 5D with some lens when used in AI servo mode. This is apparently caused by electrical interference from the AF motor. This is not a problem I have experienced.
