So... several weeks ago my 35L fell about 6 inches onto a hardwood floor. This did something, because the lens no longer focuses - manual or AF. It needs to be sent in for repair.

What's do folks expect the cost to be? It is out of warranty. I don't know if I want to claim it on my homeowner's insurance. Last year, I sent in my 70-200 for repair and the labor costs alone was in the hundreds.

I also didn't renew my CPS this year. Not sure if it's really worth it. I have another camera body purchase coming, so I can wait a bit until I add that and get Platinum membership for $300. Not sure if that's worth it either, but the discount for repairs is 30%.

Last option is to throw it up on eBay and let someone figure it out. I bought this lens used for $750. It's otherwise immaculate. No marks from the drop. If labor costs is going to run $300, then I'd actually rather sell it for between $300-400 (do you think I can get that much?).

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

You might consider contacting Toshio in NJ since your lens is out of warranty. I've had lenses repaired and rebuilt by him.

Yes. He repairs and rebuilds Canon cameras and lenses (Canon NJ will send items they can't fix to him for repair). The business name is T F Camera Repair.
