Rather mind blowing too for one used to a mere handful of birds, to see such huge numbers. (well apart from Starlings!) I love these all crowding onto one tree. Really beautiful birds. All very nice Thanks Richard. These huge groups of boat tailed grackles (second pic-second post) are not rare around here. Like in the photo they occasionally gather in huge numbers in the trees on my street and work their way around the neighborhood. The noise is incredible. Sometimes there re other birds mixed in. I don't have any pics handy (they're somehwere) but after a rainstorm or a lot of lawn mowing (or both, preferably) we also get huge flocks, in the hundreds, of white ibis in our neighborhood digging in the wet, fresh-cut grass for grubs and worms. They cover my lawn like snow! Ed

I didn't really appreciate or grasp the enormity of it until I saw photos and conversations on here. Yes I can appreciate those raptors would be something. I thought more since my comment and we do have occasional large flocks of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Cattle Egrets visit, so I correct my last dodgy statement ![]() I would LOVE to see a large flock of sulphurs. That would be mindblowing for me. (I am a parrot guy. I also used to have a lesser sulphur as a pet) We also have lots of cattle egrets here but I have not seen a large number of them at once except at rookeries and they are usually mixed in with other similar birds at the rookeries.
