With the rumours that Canon lens prices are going to jump 20% in Canada within the next couple of months, I've decided to take the plunge now and purchase the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM.

The best price I can find is $2309.99, CAD, here in Canada. The dollar is so poor right now that ordering from the U.S. doesn't make fiscal sense (1999.00 USD from B&H becomes almost 3K CAD, before GST and import duties are paid).

Does anyone know of a better price than $2309.99 CAD? Does anyone know of any rebates or other deals? I would prefer not buying grey market, and I only want to deal with used for in-person cash transactions.

I can pick it up locally for $2309.99, at both The Camera Store and Vistek.

AFAIK No, but even if they do, I guess it will be expensive with all fees, customs etc. To be eligible for free shipping, it has to be within CONUS. What don't you just ship it to the border and pick up there?

To US or Canada? Is it in CAD or USD for the price you pay for 85mm?

I ordered from Canon's Canadian website, in CAD. GST was $115.50. The total was $2,425.49 CAD.

I'm not very close to the border, and I drive an F250 Super Duty 4x4 that has very poor fuel economy. I'd be looking at over $200 in fuel just to drive to Sweet Grass Montana and back. Then I'd have to pay G.S.T. and duty on the lens anyway. My passport is expired, too. With the Canadian dollar being so low, crossborder shopping really isn't worth it right now: unless it is a crazy good deal.

I see.

I always use photoprice.ca for all pricing. It's basically CPW for Canada and I always contact the store first to get discount or free stuffs. Usually it works :).

Actually, since we started photoprice.ca a few years before CPW, the more accurate statement is "CPW is photoprice.ca for the USA". :-)
