Helping some friends who own a local cafe. This is my first attempt at food photography. Not something I'll pursue, but was interesting. Some of my shots will go into a local ad circular.

And two of the cafe. One done right and the other a crazy HDR.

Those are nice shots, Mike. Particularly like the shot of the cafe.

For me though, the food pics are a bit too hot and slightly over exposed. If they were mine, I would bring down the highlights and reduce the brightness a bit. Nevertheless, they are nice captures :D

I thought about that (the brightness/highlights) and left them that way on purpose because they will be shrunk down considerably for the advertisement. The publication is booklet, full color, that is about five inches wide and about seven inches long. They squeeze a lot into each page, and there are many businesses that only buy half a page. I figured it was better to err on the side of too bright when the photos will be about the size of a business card.

But on a different note: the cafe is unhappy with me because I didn't come back the next night and they planned on me being there. I notified the advertising agent the night before that I wouldn't be there, but he didn't tell them (and told me he didn't get my message--but I definitely messaged him).

That makes sense Mike :D...

Didn't your mother teach you that it's rude to post photos of yummy food online UNLESS you are offering it to send us that food? ;-)a

Looks awesome! I might switch the camera focus more to the food and let the wine bottles blur out slightly.

Nice pics, I miss a little bit of blacks and some contrast unless you went for a kind of pastel effect.
The HD pic is also nice, a bit too much for my taste, I like the ones where at first sight you cannot tell it is HDR but you need to look twice.
