I'm thinking about getting an M3 camera and wondering if the Canon EVF-DC1 Electronic Viewfinder is really a necessity or a luxury?
Any special pros/cons for the camera? ? Just looking for a smaller walk around camera and have read reviews of the performance, but am looking for actual testimonials as to experiences using the camera.
Thanks in advance

If you're going to do any work in bright sunlight the electronic view finder is very useful. The lcd live view gets washed out if the sun shines on it.

I agree with the above. The M is an excellent camera, but does need a decent Viewfinder. I do wish someone would develop one for the series one camera.

To be honest on my A7 i rarely use the viewfinder. On my M I never miss a viewfinder. The screen on the M is so darn good.

I have an M3 and don't have the viewfinder. I don't miss it at all. I also have a 7D so I am used to using the viewfinder for framing. What I do miss is having a speedy AF. I find that the M3 is just too slow. It is a fantastic camera for landscapes and the RAW files it produces are great for recovering shadows but it takes so long to focus that it struggles with anything moving. I often find that by the time it has focused the moment has passed.
