SanDisk SDHC Card question??

I need a couple of new cards for my 60D. I’ve had issues with the video kicking off on cards that are supposed to be class 10.

Both of these cards are SanDisk 32GB Class 10.

One is an Extreme and one is a Pixtor (BestBuy special?)

I thought the extreme was supposed to be the better card, but its 45MBs, while the Pixtor says 80MBs.

They are within $1 of each other. Which is a better card? Quality/speed

Also, I have other devices that use MicroSD. Is there any disadvantage to using a MicroSD in an adapter on my 60D?

The only card I ever had fail on me was a Sandisk(purchased at bestbuy). Since then I went with Sony cards and not a single issue. Plus they're about half the cost of the SD units.

I have two Sandisk Extreme UHS-1 (not the Extreme Pros), and they're both 90MB/s. Not sure what's going on with the BB cards.

This is limited to the two card you link above, they are essential the same card. Same controller, same NAND (MLC, 2 bit per cell NAND), I would say get the cheaper one.

Pixtor designation is NOT related to the grading system like Ultra, Extreme, Extreme Plus or Extreme pro. An Ultra grade card can get designation of Pixtor, which is still a Ultra card(TLC). An Extreme card can also get designation of Pixtor, which is an Extreme card (MLC, much better than Ultra). So don't get caught up at the "Pixtor". It appears to be a Best Buy only model, that is about it. If you search Sandisk.com, you won't find Pixtor card.

Sandisk Extreme has read of 90MB/s, write of 40-45MB/s. What manufactore quote with big text is "transfer speed", which is 99% of the time is the read speed. Because read is always faster than write, so it looks better.

Another example is Sandisk Ultra with quoted transfer speed of "30MB/s". It reads at 30MB/s, but it only write at about 10-12MB/s. This kind of scheme applies to all manufactures, including Lexar, transcent, PNY, Sony, Samsung .... you name it. The better one actually still define the actual write speed in small text, other don't even bother.

.

Just so you aren't chasing a problem, tell us more about the "video kicking off" you are experiencing. Under some circumstances what you are experiencing may be normal. For example, I have a class 6 Sandisk that kicks off just short of 30 minutes. That is perfectly normal. I could go buy the very best card in the marketplace and 29+ minutes is all I will get because of the camera firmware limitation.

I’m aware of the size/time limits. It would only records for a few seconds and stop displaying a message "Movie recording has been stopped automatically". I had two cards it would do this with, a Patriot LX and a PNY Professional, both class 10 cards. The Patriot eventually went out completely and Patriot replaced it. The PNY does it randomly but works fine for phots or with other devices. Right now I’m using a Samsung 64GB MicroSD in an adapter. It has worked so far, but I think I want the regular SD.

I rarely use my camera for video, but I had it in my hands one day when I wanted video and it failed. So I’m looking for something I can rely on.

I need some new cards to for my 70D and my Sony camcorder...

This one http://www.costco.com …HC.product.100235312.html (external link) is what they have at Costco.

Seems this would be good for my purposes. Anything I'm missing? I have been using these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …extreme_32gb_sdhc_u3.html (external link)

What is the difference?

^ B&H always has the best prices. That 256 card is only $99 too.
Just notice the price per gig your paying to get the best deal.

Also note that in the second link the write speed on the smaller models is only 40Mb/s
And the larger two have 60Mb/s

This makes no difference in the camera, as it has limited writing speed; only when writing files to it with a computer, it would be faster.

So I guess I don't get why I would want the SanDisk Extreme Plus rather than the SanDisk Extreme Pro (http://www.bhphotovideo.com …75_Extreme_Pro_32_GB.html (external link))

Can anybody give an opinion on the difference?

^ The Plus 32Gb is a better deal price wise.

If for example you plan to write many Gb of media files onto and off of your SD card, that Pro card will write at 80-90Mb/s more than double the speed.

This probably doesn't apply to most photographers, however, I use my SD card for audio, video, and photographic media all at once.

Save you cash and get the best priced model.
Don't forget to check out Adorama.com as well
