Been a couple years since I used a remote for bball. Figured I would give it another shot. Worked ok. Not completely happy with the way things turned out. I should probably make some notes on what to change for when I try this again in a couple years. :)

Anyways, here are a few samples.

Great captures of action. Love the focal length used and the focus. Not sure what you're not happy about. Shadows?

Well done!

Thanks Phil.

The shadows don't bother me. Just not sure about the focal length and the angle. I think next time I might try just a bit longer focal length.

And I think I missed focus by just a tad. Thought I had it set for about a foot or so below the rim, but looks more like it is right on the rim. That is too high for HS ball around here.

I think you're being too critical. These shots are great. Still, mixing things up with a different FL might prove interesting. Do you have to wait so long before trying it again?

I'm with Mark J. Thumbs up!

Do you have a pic of your set-up?

Did you mount the body on top of the back board or above that?

Thanks for your response in advance!

I do have a pic of the setup. Will find it and post it later tonight.

The camera was above the backboard. The shutter was triggered by a pocket wizard in my hand which in turn triggered the cybersync transmitter in the hotshoe for the strobes.

I like the lighting and the shots are sharp but I'd like to see a wider shot - much wider. When I look at these I don't get the feeling it's a game (other than the jerseys). If you include more of the arena and other players I think it would help.

I've never shot like this so I'm definitely not an expert - just my thoughts. Take them or leave them.

Did no one object to the strobes? I would think the players would really dislike it.

When strobes are used properly, nobody even notices. Certainly not the players. Of course, we aren't talking about regular on camera speedlights here. Which would be bothersome.

I have been strobing basketball for years and never had a single person complain.
