I have been a long time shooter of canon, but with not shooting much sports I made the switch to Fuji, a x100t and xe2, love the colors and sooc JPEG2000. My problem is here I am down in the carribean, and want some great shots of my wife and I on the beach, and do I want to hand my beautiful x100t to some stranger with sand and suntan location. I have been leaving it the room and taking my Sony rx100. Anyone else get nuts with the water beach vacation.
What do you do,

What do you do,

Buy gear to use and not to admire. If the camera gets some sand or lotion on it...just clean it.

I have insurance on my camera and lenses. If anything happens they are covered. I try to be careful but I bought the camera to take pictures. :-)

I use my DSLR almost all the time. The only exception is when I'm on my canoe or kayak and I know it is going to get soaked. For those occasions, I have a little Sony P&S in a waterproof housing.
In your situation, I would have the Sony because I don't trust a stranger with my Canon DSLR. Despite telling them not to change focus or zoom, some people still do that and ruin the shot I had set up.

i went to the Caribbean a few weeks ago. i brought the dslr and the rx100. i wasn't worried about theft or damaged because my gear is insured. i opted for the rx100 simply because its small and unless i had an opportunity for really good pictures the dslr wasn't worth dragging around. you usually arent on the island during a time to get great shots since the sun is so bright.

Ricoh GR is a good choice. I brought mine to my Mexico trip, where I went to Cancun, PDF, Tulum, & Cozumel. It's small enough to put in a ziplock bag if things get really wet, and cheap enough where I really wouldn't be stressing if I got some imperfections on it.

It's an APSC sensor as well as a super sharp 28mm equiv lens on it, and had no regrets when I brought it on the beach vs. my a7r2 or 5D3.

Always some lens, never your lens.
