Sensor cleaning question

Greetings all!

I am a very new photographer and think I may have gotten something on my sensor. I called a local place that cleans them but they gave me contradicting information:

First he said that the spots in my photos should not change size regardless of the zoom on the lens, then he said that it could change when I was just going to try and clean the lens again.

I am just trying to find out if the spots could be on the sensor and not the lens, even though they change size when zoomed in or out. Want to get that cleared up before spending $50 on something that may not resolve the issue, I already have checked the lens and see nothing wrong on either side.

These are two photos where you can see the difference of the spot in the top right corner

thanks!

Looks like dust on the sensor .why don't u give it a blast of air to see if u can blow it off, that's the first line of defence. Have u changed lens to see if it goes away?

It's sensor dust. It's more notorious (may even appear to change in size as it becomes more defined) at small apertures. I'd get a blower that's made for camera equipment, like the Zeeion (http://www.visibledust.com/products3.php?pid=444) (external link); do NOT use compressed air like the one used to dust computers: you could permanently damage the sensor.

If the dust remains after using the blower, then it's probably oily dust: it'll need wet cleaning. Either send it to the Canon service centre or do it yourself with Eclipse (http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_Optic_Lens_Cleaning.html (external link)) and Visible Dust swabs (1.6X size).

The two photos that you have presented do not have different zoom lengths, they have different apertures. The smaller aperture, f25, will give a more defined view of the dust spot. This is why it is smaller at f25 than at f10 where it is more diffuse.

It is dust on the sensor and I agree with Alveric's recommendations regarding the removal thereof.
