How difficult is it to use HSS with a Sony A7ii or A7rii with Elinchrom strobes or Profoto strobes? It seems like HSS is possible with certain triggers and certain flash systems (seems like the Nissin ones work), however I would want to be able to use the equipment I have already. Eli just came out with Canon/Nikon Hi-Sync triggers, and I am not going to bank on them releasing a Sony-compatible system any time soon, so I'm curious about what's possible today, and what the next year could bring as Photokina is in a short 7 months. Thank you.

One of the options is you can use Phottix Odin for Sony.
Connect the receiver to Eli strobe via pc cable.
And adjust the ODS timing in Odin transmitter to get the best hypersync result.
There will be dark gradient banding on the top of the frame though (depends on flash duration)

Pixel King Sony TTL trigger will work as well.
However, this is NOT HSS. It is Elinchrom's version of Hyper Sync. The Pixel King does not offer ability to fine tune the FP-Sync pulse off set.

Phottix has announced the Odin II and stated that a Sony variant will be available later this spring. That is likely to offer FP-sync off set.
Since Phottix has recently signed collaboration agreement with Elinchrom there may be an incentive for them to ensure the Odin II works well with Elinchrom.

Thank you both - sounds like the answer is "sort of" with the thought that it may be better (natively) supported later this year or as time goes on.

And to add Godox has announce a new tx/rx and hotshoe flash that will be compatible. Also the 360 barebulb will also include TTL and HSS for Sony later this year....

Happy Shooting:lol:

Just to close the loop on my thread: I went to a trade show today here in LA and an Elinchrom rep said that a HSS trigger will be released for Sony cameras this year.

Good news. Elinchrom is HyperSync. They do not do an Flat Burn with pulsed strobe firing based on what I've been able to read on the website. Rather they use the tail of the tube firing one at a sufficiently slow duration to enable lighting the subject during shutter travel.
