Western Australian Music Industry Opening Night

I had the opportunity last night to take photos at the opening night of the WAMi festival. For those who don't know it’s the Western Australian Music Industry week to showcase and award those in the Western Australian music industry. This was something a little different to what I normally do, since I am used to photographing DJ's in clubs, so the live music was a nice change of scene.

Rest of the night can be found @ http://wami.perthseen.net/ (external link)

Comments would be great, along with any tips for next time.

Cheers

J

I like #1 and 4, On the last one, the second guy (and the BG) is distracting, and the expression is bored if anything, otherwise nice. 2 looks a bit soft (might be the size), and doesn't 'do' much for me, while #3 is a bit in between: Either too much or not enough guitar. I think too much.

Yes, #1 is striking/pleasing in its unusualness ... since children are generally not allowed in many of the venues we shoot and we are normally not shooting in school settings, this young man in the center of stage lighted greatness is a wonderful counterpoint to what we usually see. And I agree with my esteemed colleague Rene on everything else.

Cheers for looking and the comments guys. The 1st shot was to give the perspective of just how young the main singer was in the band. There was a range of ages at the first night that I attended, with this band, the flairs being the youngest in the festival. Shot 2 looks soft think cos of the filter effect, I tried a few different things to make the photos a little more interesting.

Awesome framing in #1. I love the detail of the hair in #4. Nice monoConvo for #3 as well. Great stuff.

Great shot of junior Mariani. I love that style composition, especially when you get guitarist pedal boards, and a glimpse of the wedges in the frame. I missed the opening night, got to a gig just about every other night of the WAMI week to make up for it though!
