Magnificent Frigatebird & Brown Pelican

From our visit to Isla Iguana, home of the largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds in Panama. They were there by the thousands! The locals refer to the one pictured as 'macho', the male animal. And I always enjoy seeing brown pelicans, as we have only the white ones locally.

Thanks, Bob. I recall your shots of them from the past. I had never seen one before. I read up on them a bit and they're interesting. Although they spend their whole lives at sea, they never touch down on the surface.

Very nice Al. Have never seen a Frigate Bird although they and the Brown Pelicans both live in Florida too. Your shot shows the male's red bits very nicely . (Did you hear about the Giant White Pelican recently seen at Ding Darling in Florida? An African/Asian bird, it was getting tons of attention. I missed it by a couple of days).

that's right Al- we had a violent thunderstorm here one day last year- lots of wind and some hail. it caught a group of these guys and knocked them into the water- they all died. I wish I had come upon them sooner I would have tried to help them
