We are doing a 6 month trip through Asia. For this trip we bought a G7X and until now we have been satisfied with it.
But today the half-press focus stopped working (we did't change any settings) and we can't find a reason.

I have the impression that the "half-press" isn't working all together. For instance, when we are in playback mode "half-press" doesn't do any thing.

This is very strange. The camera is new (about 3 months) and we took about only 4000 photos.

We are at the moment in Vietnam, so i can't go to the place where i bought it to change it.
Each day that passes withoit the camera working we are loosing some valuable pictures of our once-in-a-lifetime trip!

What do you think we can do?

Thank you!!!

I would call Canon and see if there is a way to reset the camera or have them send you a new one.

Did you try setting it back to factory specs anyway? Or maybe you did this accidentally:

I am more and more certain this is nit a setting proble because the "half press" works sometimes.
Like once in each twenty times or something.

I.wrote Canon, but still got no answer.

Tomorrow we are doing a two day trip to the amazing Halong Bay i am am already sad and disappointed on all the photos we will be having trouble getting (or not get at all). :(

Check the manual. I *think* you might be able to set one of the back buttons to AF. Back button focus as it were.

I'm having the exact same problem with my G7X... Half pressing the shutter button doesn't do anything. It doesn't lock AF nor does it put the camera in shooting mode when I half press during playback.

Did you find out what the problema was? Any solutions or is my camera simply defective?

Thanks!
