Issues with a microSDXC card in 60D (Windows 10)

I am trying to use a Samsung 64GB MicroSDXC UHS-I card in my Canon 60d.

If I format the card in windows I can see it and copy files as normal. If I format it in the camera and the try to read it on the desktop I get the message: “Please insert a disk into SD/mini-MMC/RS (h:)” on my Dell XPS 8500 running Windows 10. If I put the same cards in my Inspiron 17 laptop (Windows 7) it reads either format.

Is there an issue with Windows 10 and the 60D format of the card?

I looked for updates for my card reader, but couldn't find any. And it does read the SDXC format as long as it hasn't been formatted by the camera.

Is your MicroSD-SD adapter an SDXC-capable one?

I had problem with micro-SD on my 60D, too. The card was a gift. I just figured the camera didn't like micro-SD, re-gifted it, and moved on.

It came with the SDXC card.

I'm pretty sure micro-SD and SDXC are two entirely different things. Did the micro- work at one time, and does not now? Or did it never work? If it never worked, that suggests why it came with the camera.

It’s a MicroSDXC card in an SD adapter that came with it. It works in the camera. It works on a windows 7 laptop whether it is formatted with windows or with the camera. It works on my windows 10 desktop if I format it with windows (copying files, etc.) If its formatted with the camera; Windows 10 recognizes that I have plugged a card in, but can’t read it.

Ok, that is beyond me. I'm still using Win7.

What file format does the Windows 7 see the camera-formatted card as being vs. the computer-formatted one (in both cases, with the card in the adapter)?

It sees them both as exFAT.

exFat may be part of the problem. It was introduced as part of the failed Windows Vista. Try formatting it as FAT32. Both machines should recognize that.

Well… Windows didn’t have the option of formatting in FAT32. EaseUS Partition Master couldn’t recognize the card. So I formatted it with NTFS in windows. Then EaseUS recognized it and I formatted it in FAT32.

I put it in the camera and took some pics and video. Worked fine and Windows 10 recognized the card. Put it back in the camera the 2nd time and the camera couldn’t access the card. I formatted the card in the camera with low level checked. Seems to be working okay. But Windows now shows the card format as exFAT, Acronis Disk Director shows it as “Not formatted” and EaseUS shows it as “other”.

Weird.

Maybe a defective card? Do other cards act like that?
