Crop the heck out of the first one - way too many distractions around the outside. You'll have a good memory there.

Other ones are ok, but keep trying!

You need to decide...do ya want snapshots or great images.
Heed your background, no clutter...proper exposure, many youtube videos...proper time of day lighting to avoid harsh lighting.

They are definitely in the snapshot category, but they're very good quality snapshots: you do have subject separation, and the DOF makes the clutter easier to ignore. These images are also valuable (though mostly to the photographer and relations) by virtue of the subjects they depict. I'd print these ones out and put them in the family album –not every image taken has to be a fine art piece.

One trick is to get the pup to face the window, then snap your photo. A toy or a treat may be required if you don't want to wait. It really helps light up the eyes. Also a leash can be edited out fairly easily, so you can tie pup up by a tree and have him/ her in a little shade without your shadow.

I really like the expressions you've captured, esecially in the 1st and second shots. Lots of emotion.

Face the window in shot one or two? I am trying to picture what you mean.

Thanks all for you help. I don't want to be a "snapshot" guy. Will work on this.
