:-) WOW ,Thanks for this ,really not expecting it with all the other terrific photos on here.Fireworks beautiful and still children clutch their ears in anticipation of that BANG :) .Water, i could sit and listen to waterfalls, the sea [I really want to move to the sea side and just sit there].
The record deck--love my vinyl ,Traffic jams ,arrghhhh one of my hates and the tick of a watch ,can be soothing unless it's 3 am and you can't sleep.
As you may have gathered i love walking in the countryside and the sound of silence ,with maybe some birds singing and a gentle wind--perfect :-D
TEEKAY -You flew with 2 Spitfires --come on you can't just leave us with that ,why ,when ,where? :) .I MAY pop into Duxford for a couple of hours later on if i get time.
I will have a think of a subject and post soon :)

Congratulations Maureen, Trumper and Jim and everyone else with easily imagined sounds!

Yes, Raven, ear protection would be a good idea when near Merlins! Having spent some time flying between two just a few feet away on each side of an uninsulated cockpit, that's why I now need hearing aids.:-(

Ouch!!
I can relate somewhat. Years ago I was a land surveyor working on a new landing strip at a Naval air station (Whidbey Island). Several times I got blasted with the firing up and warm up while standing quite close to a couple Navy trainers - T-28s I think. Unbelievable. But such an incredible experience, I was more in awe than pain. It's a wonder I can hear anything to this day.

Congrats Trumper. Great shot! I would love to hear that Merlin in a low-level high-speed flyby. And to Maureen and Jim as well. Nice shots. The watch face was well done and also the Ansel Adams non-sound of the Canyon. Real nice shots.

I used the G1X's hand-held fireworks setting. This is a close crop of one of those. I had to steady the camera on the bed of my pickup and hold real still for 2 seconds, and hope I was pointed in generally the right direction. There were more than a few duds and some of them look pretty shaky but this one came out nicely.

Congratulations to Gary (Thumper) and Maureen for your excellent depictions of Sound! And thanks for the 3rd Place nod for my NYC taxi line. Jim this was a wonderful challenge and you were blessed with outstanding entries...winners all! I'm glad I was not the judge on this one :-)

Mark, welcome to the G Series photo contest and do stay on in the competition :-) I really loved the clarity and focus of your watch face photo. I have been looking for an upgrade to my trusty G11 and now I am really thinking the G7X MKII might be the one.

Teekay, I agree that your canyon photo is a wall hanger! It shows that a good Canon product in the hands of a skilled photographer produces outstanding results!

Jim -- I keep the G5X in the Glove Box just in case!

Not between two Spitfires,Trumper, just aircraft with two Merlins. I'll give you a clue: they were made of wood!

And thanks for your comment on my "silence" photo, Jim - it still surprises me what one could do with an old 3mp G1.

You got it right.

There's actually one in Canada now that was restored in Victoria, BC into airworthy condition. It's the only one in the world still flying according to Wikipedia. Here's one site about it: http://gainingaltitudedocumentary.com/ (external link)

I live in BC and one of these days I'm going to try and see it for old times sake - maybe they'll even let me into the cockpit if I ask nicely.;-)a

Awesome video!
The RAF really kicked butt in that war!

Good video - you obviously got a great viewpoint. So many Spits! I was amazed to see a Blenheim flying, and when I Googled it find that it is the only one in the world.

I take it you are a WWII aircraft enthusiast - or aircraft in general?

Here are over a dozen Merlins for you. Scanned from an old print taken one-handed using a folding VP Kodak on 127 film, so excuse IQ. And sorry, everyone, for getting seriously off-topic here.

No apologies necessary! I've enjoyed the conversation. Photography is all about sharing memories, right?

Fyi, I'm a bit immobile following a wrong move on the stairs last week. My knee took the brunt of the mishap. I think it's slowly improving and I hope to get shooting again soon. But I will likely miss the new challenge.
