I bought my 35L about six years ago after doing a bunch of research that it was one of the best primes. Now I can't find anything about it? I see they released a new version, but is that it?

I use it almost exclusively on my 6D and really like it, but now I'm wondering if I'm missing something?

Since Sigma came out with a 35/1.4 Art in 2013 they overwhelmed Canon by delivering a much better (sharper) lens at a fraction of the cost. A lot of people jumped right onto that lens and that lens became one of the most discussed lenses of all time. So many photographers bought the Sigma and are still really happy. There are not much people who would like to pay 2.5 times at much to get a little better 35LII.

I actually just bought a used 35L v1 on here recently and am really happy with the purchase. I heard way too many first hand accounts of randomly missed focus and such on the Sigma. I can understand if it's my fault for missing a shot, but I don't think I'd be too thrilled about missing shots due to my choice in equipment. Would have loved the 35L v2, but not at the current price for me personally. Still too many other lenses on my wish list. :)

If it produces images you love what is the issue?

Trust your eye, ignore trends, follow your instincts and photograph everything you love.

What you mean by "can't find anything about it"? There are dozens of reviews still up, test results at the-digital-picture, head-to-head comparisons with the mkII and Sigma offerings, both on blogs and youtube, etc. There is more information about it than I'd even have time patience to read. It's discussed more than most lenses its age.

It was one of the best primes. Now it's an 18-year-old design, discontinued and outperformed by many newer lenses that are naturally being discussed more actively because they are newer and better.

Oh Please

What a load of Bunk. Our assistant has the 35 art and I have a 7 yr old 35L...They are very close but the canon still looks better to me. And the Canon acquires focus MUCH better in low light.

There is no issue, I was just curious if there was something I was missing that other people really didn't like about it.

I don't know about reviews, but there remains a very active image thread.

there's more competition out there...the sigma 35A definitely cut into it's sales...and then it was discontinued with the release of the 35II...nobody is buying that lens new now(not sure if anyone even bought it new after the 35A came out), so they're not likely to leave a review for an older established lens...people know what they're getting with that lens

the 35L OG isn't sharp until F2. canon makes a 35 f2 with IS which is sharp wide open. in fact all the newer upper end primes are sharp wide open. the 35L OG had its day but times have changed and canon has again set the bar with the 35L II.

Ed completely disagree

my 35L is tack sharp at F/1.4. I know several that still have it and use it wide open. Thats just not an accurate statement at all.

I have seen the new 35L and snapped off some shots with it. Definitely better than original.

I hate seeing these arguments about version and version 2 lens from canon. There are some improvements, as there should be, over the original glass......If its enough to make you switch God Bless and switch.....But that doesnt mean the original glass is not any good or all of=a sudden cant work wide open......Non Sense

Not all the version 1 glass is soft at the wider ends as some believe.

I have very sharp, tach sharp, version 1 glass that I use

70-200 F/4 and F/2.8 is
24-105
17-35
35L

all older canon lens. At least 8 yrs old

I have tested these side by side to the updates........not enough there to me to justify a switch to new version.

the new 35L is phenominal. But im going to hang on to what I have. I Put update for lens $$ into the new 1Dx2
