I shot a show at ISO 51,200 with flash

I used the wide diffuser on the flash itself.

That really worked well. Not quite the same but definitely reminds you of pushed black and white film. Did you mess with noise reduction any? I am curious to see how different color and/or luminance noise reduction settings changes the character of the effect.

I actualy snapped a few max iso shots I expected to be throw aways earlier today, gunna try this out on 'em when I process 'em tomorrow

Nah I didn't do any noise reduction, just a downsizing to 1000px and a sharpen.

For rock n roll I would definitely shoot like this again, it worked really well I think.

Maverick, what year was that? I borrowed a 20D off a mate in 2006 (i think), when was the 10D era?

You gotta give the client what the want! Seems there is a cheaper option if this was a style you end up shooting in more. Grab a 5dc at 3200 + 15mm at a lower fstop and flash. Seem I bit strange to have a 1dx to purposely make grainy photos and have to use a very high fstop to do it.
