I've been doing a lot of portraits of my wife and 1 year old lately so this was a nice change of pace for me.

I dont know the last one really works without a kicker on the shadow side.

The kicker kills them: it's very distracting and it looks unnatural. They're strong portaits and I love the mood; they woulda been winners without the rim lighting. :-(

Thanks guys, I was trying out the kicker (haven't really tried it much) so I could separate the model from the background. I do agree that the last one is a little strange with the kicker. Thanks for the critic! :)

Number two is really nice except for the kicker. Neither the nose or the right eye break the right side of the face. Watch the key hitting the short side ear.
