Does anybody know if the bubble level is just glued in place?

Trying to remove one which lost all it's fluid. Tried heating it with hair drier for a while but it's still firmly attached.

Exactly what model do you have and what year was it made?

Looking at the 190 parts lists, the level is not sold as a part but you could buy the upper casting with the level in it.

The level in my 3021BPro (forerunner to the 055 B Pro) appears to be held in a hole with an adhesive or a strong double-sided tape.

If you really need a level for the tripod, the best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to purchase and use something like the Manfrotto 438 Compact Leveling Head (external link). That not only gives you a level just under your tripod's head but makes level adjustment extremely fast and easy. If your tripod's legs aren't adjusted for a perfectly vertical center column, tweaking the 438 leveler makes up for the difference in as little as a couple of seconds.

Thanks for the suggestions :-)

Bought the tripod in 2004. There's a serial number but it's half worn away.

I'm in no mind to replace the casting or spend on a leveling head given it's infrequent use.

Just want to replace the bubble level for quick reference.

Assuming you have the conventional center column, you can buy a common torpedo level - even a little 4-inch version - and use it vertically around the center column. Home Depot has a "4-inch Handy Level" for a little under $7.00.
