Comments on these bowl pictures

Same bowl, different backgrounds. Shot on different days so the angle is slightly different. Plus I dusted it for the black background

I'm just curious what people think of the two different backgrounds mainly.

For this particular bowl, I prefer the dark background. It seems to give it some "Pop" whereas the grey background looks drab. If you added more light to the first one to make the background white (high key), it could compete better with the second shot.

The white background needs to be white. It needs more light. The black is okay but the bottom of the bowl gets a bit lost.

Definitely black.

Small pieces of mirror can shove light up under the edge of the bowl to the underneath part. I'd suggest trying to hit both the far left and right to add some "rim" light.

Opinion: Instead of setting it on a black sweep, put it on a little pedestal with the black cloth draped over it, and the black backdrop several feet behind the bow. That would give it a little more visual interest and let you very easily pick up a little light underneath (if you so desired).

It is actually on a one inch platform to raise it up a little. With that wide a rim, it hard to get light underneath. I know the lighting needs work. Personally, I liked the warmth of the colors with the black background. The white was so white that in PP to fix the color on the bowl, the background got slightly gray.

It has actually been a fun process since this object is harder to light and the color makes choosing a background interesting.

i would use the color wheel to choose a complementary tone for the background, and put something of interest (small?) inside the bowl. Otherwise, it looks like product shot. imo
