At massdrop, the 5DS R will be $2,979 if at least 3 people commit to buy it at that price.

This is the first time I've heard of Massdrop. I assume as a whole, the forum has had good experiences with Massdrop?

I would be highly interested in participating in this opportunity but I would love a bit more feedback on this site.

Thank you.

First three Canon 5Ds. Some lights (some really fancy ones too). Some glass (maybe a few too many but who's keeping track?). Some cool stamps on my passport.

I've bought through them before, but nothing related to photography. One of the founders of the site is fairly active on a men's style forum called StyleForum and he has hooked up some pretty great deals for that community. Basically, anyone can propose a "drop" and once your poll gets enough interest he will negotiate a bulk rate with a vendor. For most drops there are one or two levels where the price for everyone goes down once that number of people have committed to buy.

have purchased from them on 2 occasions... both were photography related. From the time I PAID till I received my order was approximately 2 months. Takes a while. First, the item will run through its "buy" period. Then Massdrop makes the order. Order is shipped to them and THEN it is shipped to you. Now if you get in on the tail end of the "buy" period, your wait won't be as long.

Personally, I would probably go first to canonpricewatch.com and get a price on the camera. That would give you an idea of what the prices are.

good luck!!
