Walk me through moving lightroom to my laptop and back.

Setup:
I've got lightroom on my desktop. I've imported the pictures, not sure what previews exist. Lightroom and catalog is on my C drive. Raw files are on a secondary internal hard drive.

Goal:
I want to keyword tag and crop on my laptop, while watching movies.

I can see how I could build previews then export the images I'm working with as a catalog and edit them on the laptop. But how do I merge that back into my master catalog?

That's describes a scenario where the file are never on the main computer to begin with. I know how to export, I'm worried about the re-merging them back together after.

You would export off the laptop and import it into the catalog on the desktop. It'll merge based upon the settings you select in the import screen.

I haven't tried it but I suggest experimenting with Smart previews or even just building small previews and then just moving those, plus the catalog to your laptop - to save copying all the source RAW files. Then when you are done just copy the catalog back to your desktop and overwrite the existing one.
