Hi, I'm a college sports photographer looking for a free alternative to Photo Mechanic. All I need it for is to batch rename photos and being able to caption photos using something like code replacement. I could do it in Lightroom but I would really prefer not to since Lightroom is really slow in my opinion.

Thanks

Check FastStone Image Viewer (the Tools tab).

It's my pivot point for anything graphic.

While those free alternatives may work for now (do they allow code replacements?), if you are going to be doing this on a regular basis, you will end up with Photo Mechanic eventually. It is the defacto standard for sports photogs that have to cull, edit, caption and file quickly on deadline.

Ya I think I'll just bite the bullet and buy Photo Mechanic. While these free programs look good, if I'm going to be doing this for awhile I may as well get the best. Is there any way I can get a deal on it and not pay full price? Does it ever go on sale?

It usually goes on sale once a year for 10-15% off, but it's hard to predict when that sale will be. The last time was in December, but it varies from year to year.

Cheers,
Bryan

I forgot to mention, the quickest way to hear about any future sales/discount is their Facebook page. They always make the announcement there first.

Cheers,
