Confirm that you can't set zoom with controller, further, with X1 attached to a 7D2, I can not change zoom using in camera control either.
I can also confirm that setting the zoom on the flash units holds.

The reason I was considering switching to X1 is cause I really like the idea of 850ii flash with Li-ion vs YN-685 I use now and it's frustruting to change batteries every day (200 shots at most) - I use it at 1/2 or full power mostly.

I think if you have a system that's working for what you are doing, you should stick with it. Why mess with success? Paul

I assume that using a Canon flash would make no difference, as the X1 is still what the camera is talking to. The Zoom feature in the Canon menu only allows control over the zoom generically. So changing the zoom will effect all heads no matter which group they're in. Robert Whetton

Where can I find firmware information on camera compatibility? I'm currently using the 1DX II and 5D IV...have a 5DIII backup for use with my current triggers (Cells C II) and am wondering if there is future support with the X1 and the HSS manual trigger (I forget what it's called). The dynamic range on the II and IV are just blissful that I've been shooting more natural light, but would love to do some f/1.2 shots on the new cameras instead of switching to the 5D III every time I want HSS.

It's relatively new X1, but it is certainly older than the 5D4. The only thing i find that don't work is the AF beam on the 5DM4 I AM SHOM
