The color image may be of correct color balance, but to me it looks too red. I guess the baby just has very red feet.

The B&W version seems to have everything but the feet more blurred than in the color version. I think that is an illusion brought about by the lack of color.

The feet seem to be in sharp focus.

Thanks Robert. You are right about the colored version, being too red. I believe this happened because this was a film shot, that I scanned.
About the blur, it comes from the 1.8 aperture and the filter that I used for B&W conversion, which applies some blur by itself.

Thanks!

Tiziano

Dear Tiziano,

I am surprised to learn that there is a filter (I assume you mean a glass, optical filter) that can be used for B&W conversion.

Anyway, thanks for clearing up the issue of being too red.

I had no idea that you were working from scanned film. I have tons of scanned negatives files, but with the grain and dust, it is difficult to deal with them. Nonetheless, it gives me a nice warm feeling to know that they are preserved, digitally, for posterity.

More likely he is referring to an action that replicates traditional B&W filters. Using the channel mixer to make a monochrome conversion is the easiest way to do this manually.

Sorry Robert, I didn't express myself properly....I meant a PS plugin, which has many interesting effects, among them many different B&W conversions. the plugin is named "Virtual Photographer", from Optikevervelabs, and it's freeware.
I have lately discovered the old film camera and lens, but I still need both the capabilities of enhancing my shots in PS, and to store them on digital supports, that's why I scan them.
Thanks!
Tiziano

I have tried many ways to do a B&W conversion, and the plugin I mentioned above is giving much better results of what I have achieved by myself so far.

I agree. I like to use plug-ins/actions that allow you to adjust the conversion after the fact. BTW, neat pic.
