Nice photos KC Mike - have a road trip to California planned for the summer with 2 days on the Pacific Highway. Any suggestions on places to stop for a night en-route from SF to LA?

Great shots! For some reason I've only ever been to Big Sur without a camera.

If you've enjoyed the sights of San Francisco and the Bay Area and are ready to head south, the first destination would be Santa Cruz and the beach area going south from there along US Highway 1. You can follow the Highway down through Monterey and then down through the "North Coast", through the Big Sur area! Of course, as we've seen, this is a place to spend plenty of time, although over-night accommodations would be short, unless you want to spend the night at Fort Ord, or Carmel, where Clint Eastwood was once the mayor!

Bur, enjoy Big Sur, for sure. from there, a nice place to stop for the night could be Morro Bay, where there is a well-known "Rock", a nice beach area, and nice over-night accommodations!

From there, you can explore the coast! the next major "stop" would be Santa Barbarbara, a nice place to visit, although it's just a couple hours from L.A. with places like Hollywood, Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach, and the list goes on!

Speaking of such journeys, once I was headed to my home town of Whittier, CA to visit family. I spent time at Venice Beach, then headed into Hollywood, where I walked into a little family Italian Restaurant and Lounge. I sat at the bar and chatted with a guy who made music videos for some known-name people, and he informed me that the place was a favorite hang-out that was not known by the "public", paparazzi and such. Clint Eastwood had been there with family and left shortly before I showed up, and in the back was the TV actor Dabney Coleman, entertaining friends...it was a fun place to go!

Sorry I don't get notifications for this site and I just checked back with it.
Are you traveling the entire Hwy 1 all the way down?
I've only stayed in Monterey in between the two cities and I don't think that would be far enough south from SF.
We did stop at the Ragged Point Inn for dinner and it looked like a nice spot.

Tony, thanks for the ideas. We're travelling from SF on the weekend ahead of 4 July so accommodation was a bit limited. So managed to find a stop at Monterrey and then an AirBNB at Santa Barbara. Looking forward to some fresh ocean air and good vistas! I understand from a friend who has driven PCH that there's plenty of great spots to stop.
