We just got back from a tour of the SW and found this amiable fellow near Bisbee AZ. One has to love these guys.

Really like the pose you caught in both of these, they can be a strange bird.

A strange bird indeed; and formidable too, if you're a snake or just about anything else. We saw others, but came upon this one sunning on a fence post. I drove as close as I dared, but couldn't get a decent focus on it for some reason. I put the TC on, then took it off, and I still couldn't nail the focus. So I thought, what the heck, and drove even closer. I thought it would fly, but it didn't, so I finally got decent shots.

Thanks for your kind comments.

I'm sure we saw at least that many during our short trip, but I know what you mean about the running part. We were fortunate to find one in repose.

Thanks, Rog. I'm going to shoot a stationary target with the TC off a tripod. But I don't think it's that, as I've gotten great shots, even handheld, with the TC before. Sometimes I feel it's the light and/or the "fuzziness" of the bird that confounds a good fix. Or maybe it's just me.
