I would like to do a photo-shoot for my good friend, Katia. This is a picture I took of her when she was 12 years old as part of a Sleeping Beauty shoot. She's a 17 year old girl who suffers from CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) since insurance doesn't cover any of her treatment it gets insanely expensive. I'm trying to find ways to raise money for her through my photography.

My idea is to do pictures of Katia in a dramatic gown, set off some yellow smoke bombs with her wearing a vintage gask mask. This would in part be representing how she is affected by the toxicity of her surroundings. Has anyone here ever sold images at an auction or used images for charity in any way? I don't really know where to start. Any suggestions are appreciated! :)

I'm not sure how many people would be interested in buying a photo of someone they don't know. That seems a bit strange, to me.

What about coordinating with an interested corporate or public entity? They give you space in a high-traffic location, and some sort of advertising. You spend a day (or whatever) shooting portraits for a donation. Perhaps a $10 minimum donation. The donation earns the giver an e-mailed, processed photo. For larger donations, perhaps a package of prints. Walmart can handle printing and mailing for next to nothing. I suppose the biggest factor is how much time do YOU have to donate to this project.

I may be way out in left field here. I've never done anything like this.

Ok thank you for your input! I'm doing a booth in a couple weeks at a charity event that was organized just for her. I'll be donating proceeds from the photo-shoots booked to her treatment, so I guess that's a start.
