5D mirror issue

I was shooting with my 5D over the weekend and the mirror came off. I have the mirror intact and unharmed and it looks like I just need to reglue it. Given that Canon is no longer fixing 5D's, any ideas on what glue to use to resecure the mirror to the mirror box?

Before you glue it on yourself give some thought sending it to a 3rd party repair shop. If you glue it I would suggest a 5 minute epoxy. Its strong enough to hold a golf club to the shaft and take lots of vibration.

I just evaluating my options since I don't really need the body for a month or two. There a couple of shops in the area I can check first.

Have you tried contacting Canon? They may have stopped supporting the 5D now, due to running out of spare parts, but the mirror fix shouldn't need any parts if they can just glue your old one back on. As the mirror fix has always been a freebie, due to it being a design / manufacturing defect, they should still accept responsibility and fix it for you, without charge.

try these shops before you try a DIY project on a repairable camera.

the first shop, all day do are repairs. the other two are actual photography shops with great staff, not sure if they offer repairs nor have I tried any of the shops I mentioned above for repairs.

Many, many people have used Loctite and equivalent super glue to put the mirror pads back in contact with the mirror assembly with great results. Just one older thread, but there are many.

Very, very little glue is used on the mount points, no risk of fumes getting around and damaging things, just be sure to leave the body cap off.

I'm also going to contact United Camera (http://www.unitedcamer​a.com/) as well since they are fairly close to me. The Chicago places are all about an hour and a half/ 2 hours from me.

There are parts needed if Canon does this, there are reinforcement plates on the sides. You can actually see the differences in a non-repaired 5D vs one that was by Canon. Most likely many of the non-Canon repair facilities will simply glue the mirror back and I wouldn't remotely consider sending this off and paying the price of just doing this myself then. It would be Canon 1st, then myself 2nd.

I used epoxy rapid, two tiny drops for each side of mirror.

Originally I glued it using original gluing points, but it didn't last.

From reviewing the CPS repair list, the 5D is not on it so I'm going to consider other options. I'm going to look at my current stock of expoy (benefit of being a plastic model builder and DIY car repair guy) and see what I have. Expoy seems to be a better choice than a cement like pylobond and I have a feeling that super glue will fog the mirror.

I have had outstanding results using rear view mirror adhesive.. I haven't fixed a mirror on a 5D but it worked great on a Canon A1. It sticks almost instantly and drys fully in a few hours.

I used rearview mirror adhesive (Permatex brand) on the camera yesterday and it seemed stable today so I took it rescue shooting today and had no issues for about 50 shots. Seems to be holding so far.

I'm planning to upgrade to a 6D this fall so it will hopefully last me through the summer. Then I'll probably convert it to a DIR camera.

Canon stopped repairing the 5Dc on April 1st.

That makes me upset as my camera broke in March. I was under the impression they stopped fixing the cameras last September.
