My 80D arrived two days ago. I just finished MFA the lenses. My Canon 40, Sigma 17-50 and Canon 400 didn't need to be adjusted. But the Canon 70-200 needed -1 at 70 and -12 at 200. I'm not surprised though since the focus was always way off with it on my 60D. I'm just about to watch a few videos about the AF modes and then go out and try to get a few bird photos around the yard.

I found that lens to be disappointing. Sharp enough but af was horrible as in didnt even search unless i was already close manually. Returned and saving for a 7D3!

I'm confused, what lens did you not like? And this is the reason to buy a 7D3?

Cheers,
JOE

Sigmas 100-400. Its not the reason to buy a 7d3. I just have an $800 start on saving for one is all. Plus if im honest with myself, ill rarely shoot at 400 anyway so no sense in getting canon's 100-400. Which was my original intent.

I assume you mean sigma 100-400.
Well the af works ok on everything that NOT comes towards you.

I'm not that happy with 80d's focussystem even with canon lenses.

1 it seems that low contrast objects like grey herons is very hard to get the camera to focus on.

2. it's liveview af is not reliable even with stm lenses in less good light.

3. 45 points af system that only works in good to very good light.

At this time of the year it is very dark here the sun goes down at 1500 hours.
And when it's up it's not far from the horizon wich give us kind of lowlight for 3 months.

My 80d does not do well in this conditions keeperate are like 3%.
And in good light 90%.

My former 6d with it's simpler af system did much better in any light condition.

I can only speak from my experience with 30D>50D>80D but I'm very satisfied with AF and Low light capabilities of this camera.

I'm getting similar results with the AF system on my 80D,I'm sure some of my issues are my fault...but I got a lot more keeper's with my T6i using the same 300mm f4
