One of those dragonfly species that never seem to settle down anywhere. Tried to catch it in flight instead, which was pretty frustrating as it never really stopped to hover and constantly changed direction...

Both are nice shots. I especially like your DFIF (dragonfly in flight :-)) shot, because I know how frustrating it is to shoot one on the wing.

I'm loathe to post my fairly basic macro shots here. I need a lesson from Michael456 These were the only dragonflies that weren't flitting around at breakneck speed, as they were clearly otherwise engaged! I do like the oolours in the picture of the weed, though. And it didn't move.

I know exactly what you're talking about! Breakneck speed and often suddenly changing direction.
They are impressive, though, aren't they? They could probably give any bird a run for it's money when it comes to flying skills. Some even mate in flight.

I like your shots! I don't often manage to get close enough to mating ones to use the macro lens.

It's so hard to avoid burnt out highlights on these, as their wet skins so strongly reflect the sunlight

Thanks!
A lot of credit goes to the lens - the 100-400 II is simply one hell of a lens and really delivers. Never regretted that purchase.

I completely agree with you about the 100-400 lens. I love mine.

Love the wing color contrast here, Mike. Great macro shots all-around too!

On the topic of the 100-400 II, do you use the 1.4x with it for your macro shots?
