I have a T3i currently and hope to upgrade to the 80D soon. Can you talk about the upgrade experience for you so far (IQ, autofocus performance, etc.)?
I started with a t2i. Upgraded to a 50D for more fps, but liked the images from the t2i better so upgraded to a 7D. Went with an 80D last Spring and like it best so far. Image quality is good. The autofocus is better than the t2i (same as t3i I think).
My favorite part of the autofocus is this: I usually shoot center point focus. If I'm out and see a bird in flight, I can switch from center point to the center 9 points in less than 2 seconds without my eye leaving the viewfinder. The 9 points gives me a lot better chance of catching the bird in flight.
It was a tough decision between the 7DII and the 80D. I finally went with the 80D based on the reviews saying it had better DR, a few more megapixels, the flippy screen and the wifi. While in Yellowstone, I missed the extra fps and larger buffer that a 7DII would have given, but the other features really came in handy.
For example, in the following photograph, I wanted to get the bison photo from water level view. Instead of laying in the prone position (like I would have with my 7D), I rested the camera on the ground and used live view, all while sitting comfortably next to the water's edge:
