I need to figure out how to upgrade the firmware. I’ve never done it.

When you download it to a computer, it comes with a PDF of instructions. Basically though, you format an SD card in the camera, then put it into the computer, download the firmware on to the computer then transfer it to the first window of the SD card, put the SD card back in the camera and go to the last item of Yellow 4 in the Menu. But it's all in the instructions.

— Please feel free to offer your thoughts on how I might improve my images —

Yes, just did this yesterday. Instructions are very clear. I have a few spare SD cards I use just for purposes like this.

Modern cameras (especially Canon cameras) are just amazing to me (from an old school film camera owner from the 60s).

Nothing to see here, only the air forces finest!
F-22 Raptor. This thing flew in ways I'm not sure a jet is suppose to be able to fly! It was crazy to see. There were times I was just in awe, and not looking through my camera. Beautiful Jet and a true feat of modern engineering!

Having owned the 16-35 F4L, I'm SHOCKED at how decent the standard lens that comes with the 80d is!

Nice light weight for hiking, but, seems like a toy compared to a standard L:

I'm also very impressed with the image quality of the 18-55. Plus, due to the short MFD, it is really great for close-up shots.
