These are terrific comparison shots between the 60mm and 100mm macro lenses. I was having a hard time deciding between the two (60mm being much cheaper). I ended up ordering the 100mm and it should arrive today. Any thoughts on using either?

I like them both.
The 60mm is smaller, lighter. When shooting at ground level, the small size makes it easier to slightly tilt the camera upward for a more interesting angle. I like to do this when shooting small wild flowers - the size of the 100mm often makes that impossible. It has a shorter working distance than the 100mm. This can be a disadvantage in some cases but is actually an advantage for flash diffusion.

The 100mm is larger and heavier. It does a much better job at "melting" busy backgrounds (due to the longer focal length). It has more aperture blades, so it renders OOF circles nicer than the 60mm. The longer focal length and larger number of aperture blades are very nice for subject isolation, especially when shooting wide open.
The IS does help for shots without a flash. When using a macro flash (that's mounted on the front of the lens), the larger size of the lens (compared to the 60mm) makes the whole rig easier to hand-hold.
The longer focal length gives you a bit more working distance. This can be an advantage, but often doesn't matter (at least to me).

Excellent, thank you! I just may have to add the 60mm to my kit as well.

It is such a pleasure to learn from the seasoned experts on this forum! Thanks again!

I'm sitting on the sidelines on any/all camera purchases for now. Just give it a few months and there's gonna be firesale opportunities due to the financial ruin that's about to hit. Currently most are in denial. Hope most here are prepared and in a good place!
