Hi guys,

So I decided to get a 27" monitor to edit on and I've seen 2 models from Dell that caught my eye
1. Dell P2715Q 27" Ultra HD 4K Monitor
2. Dell U2715H 27" Widescreen LED Backlit LCD Monitor
My only dilemma now is whether I should get the 4K as its only 70$ more BUT my laptop (to which the screen will be connected) doesnt support 4K output so I wont be able to enjoy the extra resolution for now but it might come handy in the future.

I couldnt really tell if there are any other differences except for the res so if anyone knows of any advantages/disadvantages please let me know.
any input will be welcomed just please dont throw too many options out there as I had a hard time as it is to narrow it down to 2

Thanks

Hi,
I'm currently looking for 24" or 27" 1440 HD monitor.
I was in the store the other day and the sales guy recommended to me Dell U2715H 27" Widescreen LED Backlit LCD Monitor as one of the best monitors for photo and video. He said I don't need 4K for now. My computer dons't support 4K anyway. So I think go with this one. You can get another 4K in a few years when the prices drop down, but since your laptop doesn't support 4K I don't see a reason for that.

If your monitor doesn't support 4K why bother, the U2715H is a great monitor.

IMHO for 27" 4K is TOO high a resolution. Just my humble opinion.

At the rate of improvement they're doing to 4k panel, I don't think you are really future-proofing yourself with a 4k model that has been in the market for almost 16 months.

I have a Dell XPS 15 with 4k resolution, and the pictures look great on it, but when it's time to use Lightroom or edit in Photoshop, I would always connect that laptop to my HP ZR30W, which only has a 2560 x 1600 resolution.

For me, if I want or can afford a 4k monitor, it would have to be at least a 32" panel.

I myself preferred the Dell Ultrasharp line over the Professional line, but since difference in price is now only $50, I would skip eating out for a few days and order the the P2715Q. Both should be covered against pixel defect for 3 years under Dell Premium Panel Guarantee.

I know that 4k isnt the new and shiny thing any more but its only becoming the norm now and most software, hardware and content are not supported or available in 4k.
32" is a bit too big for me and probably a bit more then id like to spend as well.
Are their any significant diffrences between the ultrasharp and professional line because they all looked about the same to me

The Ultrasharp line usually comes with little extra. All of my Ultrasharps from 24" to 27" have an extra USB port on the left hand side. Since the Ultrasharp is typically a little bit heavier than the P model of the same screen size, Dell also includes a different monitor stand. This doesn't matter to me because I always use a Ergotron desk mount.

The P line usually have the USB port on the back. The Ultrasharp usually has IPS panel while the P model uses TN panel, but the P2715Q is also using an IPS panel.

I believe the newer Ultrasharp comes with factory calibration and report.

I have an Ultrasharp & it's stunning. I went for the 5k version running on a Mac Pro - love it!

I thought I would have a quick look for one of these on Amazon (UK), so I searched for "Dell 5k computer monitor" and got two results. Both for a UP2715K. Amazon's great though, one of them is up at £699.00 the other for £2623.36! Is this the one you have?

Hi, yes, it's the one I have, you need to be careful on Amazon & even with some websites as some tend to cover the warranty themselves (third party & not through Dell) & as such, regardless of what they tell you, it's NOT the same. They'll tell you it's how they keep the price low...

Dell provide a 3 year warranty swap out on the Ultrasharps for even a single pixel issue & I know Dell will still be around 3 years down the line...alright, I appreciate it's not thousands of pounds worth of kit, nonetheless it's my hard earned readies at risk...

I bought mine through Laptops Direct (part of The buyitdirect group) that provide the full Dell warranty (I checked), DON'T buy off the website! Call them! The website said ~£800 but I'd seen it for £749 elsewhere & as they price match I thought I'd call them - their price on the day (not shown online at that point) was £709 which was far better than a price match!

Having just looked it doesn't appear that they have it in stock, but worth a call : http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ (external link)

Great screen!

Oh, it also has Harmon Kardon speakers built in which is a nice touch & the factory calibration was very good.
