i think this may be my best bufflehead shot ever... the reflected colors and texture of the water, the light, the iridescence on the little guy's head... i love it when it all comes together like this! taken from about 25 feet away...

I'm still amazed you got that good of a shot of one of these guys. I think I would print that and frame it Rocky. Waterfowl are tough here at the parks because of all the foot traffic on the trails, and you can't set up a blind. I'd love to be closer than a 100 yards to one of these guys.

thanks, Beekeeper! this little guy actually swam even closer than that, but he was in shadow then, so i didn't take many shots. this was at a local city park, where people walk, bike, and walk their dogs, but the ducks seemed unconcerned today. i was standing near the edge of the pond with my tripod set up in plain view, and they still came in close... other times, though, they see a person and head for the middle of the pond lickety-split... go figure. but i'm fortunate to have a number of places where i can photograph waterfowl from what most people consider ridiculously short distances.

Stunner for sure, Rocky! We get to photograph a LOT of things around here at ridiculously close distances, for the most part, though; not just water birds :D
