Light weight and small. A sharp little lens and an all around good wide angle option for a cropped sensor Canon camera. IS rating: 9, the IS on this lens works very well. The only grip I have is the fly-by-wire focus. Typical of the STM lenses, the lens must be powered up in order to use the focusing ring. The f/4.5 min aperture is only at 10mm, once you zoom to 11mm the min aperture changes to f/5. On a tripod the min aperture is not an issue since i'm usually at f/8 anyway. Off tripod, the IS can really helps. I had this lens on my 70D on top of a 12 foot painter's pole. With the IS on I was able to shoot at shutter speed as low as 1/3 of a second and still got very clean pictures.

I've been considering this lens for use at a "possibly" outdoor wedding. Already decided to purchase. Your comment of using it on a paint pole just inspired me! In my real job, we do just this, but with a GoPro held downward into a utility manhole for inspection video. I'll be ready. Other reviews are consistent on raving about the sharpness being tops, and the IS being quite effective, moving this above the 10-22 in spite of it's faster speed and metal lens mount.

I've had the lens for about a year. Only drawback is when shooting towards the sun. Lens will flare. Sun does not need to be in frame. Else its a great light weight lens.

This lens has easily met my expectations in shooting dark indoor concerts. IS help assure stationary objects were sharp. Being wide angle, the slow shutter speeds were not as disadvantageous as on telephoto. Motion blur by moving guitarist simply adds to the drama. Results were met with enthusiasm. Sharpness really is there! It's the bargain go to lens for Crop, and fulfilled a major gap in my coverage. Highly recommend.

Edit: I realize it won't work on the 5D MKII, but I am getting an SL2 so it will work on that.

Great lens, nice and sharp and the IS along with the wide angle is great for handheld. I can produce sharp images with 1/2 second exposures handheld as an amateur.
