Great in-flights Capt. The first is a beauty because of the better separation between the wing and crest

Would love to see a Pileated, let alone photograph one, closest for us was on a trip to Maine, was at a spot where a pair was regularly visiting a tree which was showing plenty of recent damage, but they didn't turn up while we were there.

Good ones, Bob. I about froze to death a couple winters back trying to get in-flight shots of pileateds. We had four in the neighborhood and they'd hang on the side of power poles for hours while I waited for them to take off. And up here it's hard to get a decent shot of one in the air that doesn't have a confused background of trees and brush. You did well.

thanks Al- that's one problem we don't have down here. waiting for a shot down here involves sweat and mosquitoes. this guy comes by pretty often while I wait for a pair of eagles to do something
