The first is a beauty because of the better separation between the wing and crest Would love to see a Pileated, let alone photograph one, closest for us was on a trip to Maine, was at a spot where a pair was regularly visiting a tree which was showing plenty of recent damage, but they didn't turn up while we were there. Thanks for sharing Kev thanks you Kev- this guy turns up when I'm waiting for something to happen at an eagle's nest. quite pleased with my luck canon R3, 1DXmk2, 600 F4 L IS mk2,100-400 L IS mk2, 16-35 F4 L IS, 24-105 F4L, canon 1.4xmk3, 2xmk3

CDMOOSE Cream of the Crop More info | Mar 30, 2016 10:44 | #4 Good ones, Bob. I about froze to death a couple winters back trying to get in-flight shots of pileateds. We had four in the neighborhood and they'd hang on the side of power poles for hours while I waited for them to take off. And up here it's hard to get a decent shot of one in the air that doesn't have a confused background of trees and brush. You did well. Al
