The first is nicely composed, a decent shot, but doesn't make me go wow, but I wouldnt' toss it.
(I'm guessing this may be an engagement picture shoot?? but putting them on different tracks gives a totally different meaning.. if you catch my drift... :) )

suggestion: what about at night? or dusk? with softboxes to light up the couple to bring them out and shape them a bit? Sunset over the city behind them?

The second.. the processing to b+w is rather dull. This is a shot I'd say I tried, but it didn't work out, not a keeper. If the tattoo is the focus, make it the focus.

suggestion: Different pose, where we can see part of her face out of focus, but the tattoo very very clear

Now, the dog in the avatar picture? totally adorbs, that one would be great with a bit of cropping and pp work.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

I like the first photo. Of course, if your subject is backlit, you have to have something to light them up as their faces are dark. I thought it was now illegal everywhere to photograph on tracks??? Anyhow, lots of interesting things to look at in the photo. I see the meaning as two lives(tracks) coming together as one. Cool

I agree with the other comments. I like your first image. Both images can be improved with processing. I rarely trash my "fail" photos, and I have plenty. Over the years, as I have gotten better at processing, I sometimes revisit my fails and come up with something I like. Shoot raw and save them then go thru them from time to time. If they are obvious fails like ,out of focus, blown beyond saving or blocked up, then trash. If these are your first shots, they are better than my firsts.

Stay away from train tacks its dangerous and unoriginal.

A little subject iceolation would help the first one. Your settings are a little weird. Why did you pick them.

Fill light in the first would have added some pop.

The first one needed some fill light, but I really liked all the geometry going on in that shot - not just the obvious leading lines. And there's something of a story there as the man & woman's tracks either diverge or converge, depending on which point of view you choose.
