I'm trying to get this just right to print and hang on the wall in my daughters room.... I have one up already of her and our 14 year old lab, but that was a couple years back.... I like to think I have a gotten better (maybe just a snidge). This area is right in our neighborhood, and we love being outdoors, so it'll be easy to get back and reshoot this.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Exposure and processing both look good, but I would like to see at least one photo where girl and dog are walking toward me.

kind of a random comment that may not help at all...but if you're going for a black and white look, have you tried NIK silver efex...i just downloaded it since it's free now(normally 150 for all of the NIK stuff) and it does seem to offer a lot of cool things for black and white photos...

as to your shots, i know everyone normally says you have to have the eyes in the photo to draw a connection...but i feel like if you know who the photo is of, than a photo without the eyes, in a situation you are used to seeing works just as well...recently i grabbed a few photos of my parents walking ahead of me on a hiking trail...i can look at it and just remember walking with them, and i can provide the faces in my mind...

I think your first one is very good. It looks like you processed it a little differently than the second, little harder contrast maybe. I like the processing a bit better on picture 2 but the content of picture 1.

Just as an aside, looking at the color picture, that pup sure doesn't look to be 14. I have two pups that are getting up in age as well. I hate that. :-(

Great feedback... Thanks. I may have mislead. We have another lab who is 14 that we already have a picture of on the wall. I wanted to get another one with her and the pup to pup next to it... The one on the wall they are facing the camera, because of his age, I felt like seeing is old gray face meant more than the two of them walking away from me since they don't have the "bond" of her and the pup. It's sad, funny, and true but our pup listens to my daughter better than my wife (she's not on this forum so I am safe ;-)a!!)

Here is a thought combining some of the comments above. I too like the walk away, but her pants are a little dirty on the bridge shot. Reshoot that shot, but also get another shot of them two of them coming towards you.
Then you can do a two shot set of them walking away and walking towards you as well. Set them side by side in the frame and see what the looks like to you.

feedback from me... i love the setup and composition but shot 1 she is just falling oof and agree her leggings or whatever they are look dirty, i think it would look better in either fitting clean ones or none.

Yes this is a very cute photo, but I was referring to walking across the bridge towards me. Don't get me wrong, I like the walking away version too. I like Ron's idea of a diptych of both.

I think like others that #1 lacks contrast. Honestly for this type of shot I would like to see it shot with a wide angle to get the impression of the small person in the great outdoors.

I can see the first (darn work anyways) and my suggestion there is to squat down a bit, and maybe a bit more dof so she isn't going out of focus, but nice image.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Cool!!! Easy fix... This picture explains the "dirt spots." The two of them romping through the water.. Splash marks. I think I can fix the LR, but a reshoot is never bad...

Nice idea. Would you suggest the same shot. Away on the bridge, and back in the same shot?

The awesome think it my pup is motivated by treats, and my daughter thinks it's cool, so it won't be to tough to take a bunch (I HOPE!!?)

I noticed that as well. I took this one, and saw the same thing... Just a second too late I think. Thanks
