Anyone ever notice a difference in "professional" gaffer tape brands? Is, for instance, 3M better than others? Is there a particular brand that professional gaffers tend to rely on? Is there a brand known to be poor?

Mag Tape 'Original' gaffer is good stuff. It's not incredibly strong and it's extremely low residue - i.e. perfect, in my book. I don't buy anything else - for our purposes, anyway.

But Mag Tape produce all sorts of other tapes - so you are right to be wary.
