For class I am wanting to get an iPad or large screen tablet to read my textbooks in their PDF format.

While looking at iPad I'm considering the possibility or also using it to subscribe to Adobe CC to edit photos on the go. Normally if I travel I take my 15" Macbook pro to edit photos, but otherwise could leave it at home. Does anybody have experience using Lightroom mobile to edit photos (mostly landscapes) on an iPad and actually recommend it? I've looked up a few reviews and youtube videos but most are from when the app first came out and was buggy.

Also: If you recommend it, what iPad would you recommend for it? Would the new iPad Pro 9" be overkill when an iPad Air would do the job?

Thanks for the input.

I don't think any of the ipads run full lightroom CC. Plus not enough processing power to do so. ipad pro maybe but I don't think it has enough ram nor the app to install on it.

I'm referring to lightroom mobile, I wish they made a full version of Lightroom available on a tablet, but as you said the processing power wouldn't be there for it.... One day.

I'm using the mobile app on an iPad 2, an android tablet and an android phone. The old ipad is more sluggish than the other two, but works fine. The question is, how are you going to get pictures uploaded? From the ipad? Or on the computer before you hit the road? That's what you need to think about more than is the ipad fast enough. Any new ipad with be plenty fast enough.

I had planned on just using the wifi connect from my 6D and downloading them to my camera roll then importing them.

What do you do in LR mobile? Keywording sorting etc. Any development? Adjustment brushes?

Basically any of the sliders in Lightroom are also available in Lightroom Mobile. Brushes are not available though. However this would allow me to complete most of my Landscape edits on the go with just an iPad and fine tune the image once I get back to my laptop at home.

These are the changes available:

Basic: B&W, White Balance, Temperature, Tint, Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Clarity, Vibrancy, Saturation
Tone Curve: Same as Lightroom (RGB and individual R, G, B Curves)

I won't list all the sliders for each option, but you get the point. Here are the other categories:
Vignetting, Split Toning, Color (HSL, B&W), Dehaze, Crop.

I'm using an iPad Pro, pencil and LR / PS along with AstroPad when I want to do more in depth edits, its pretty slick and negates the need for a very expensive wacom.

LR Mobile is great but I like using AstroPad for when I want to use all the CC suite tools on the iPad.

AstroPad only acts as a tablet correct? It doesn't have any capabilities on it's own if not paired to a mac.

Correct, you have to tether to the mac or pc to use it, either wifi or lightening.

iPad Pro is deadly for what you're intending however.

Well now you've got me rethinking. I was considering picking up a Used Air 2 for $300 this afternoon. Now I'm seriously consider saving and investing in a the new Pro with a Pencil.

Hang on if LR doesn't have any brushing why would you want that?

Most of my landscape work is done without brushing, I use a similar method to Serge Rameli.
If I an knock out 95% of my workflow on the go it saves me a lot of time once I'm at my laptop.

I just wish Adobe would release a better mobile version of photoshop that allows for better portrait retouching... is freq separation on the go too much to ask for Adobe? Come on!

Strongly suggest you check into Astropad before you make your decision you may not want the tethering thats required for the full fledged LR / CS ability.

Another recommendation for Astropad, it's awesome! I have the larger iPad Pro with the Apple pencil and it is just amazing. You get the full power of Photoshop or Lightroom from you computer on the iPad. I would strongly encourage you to try that out, I've never even tried the mobile version of lightroom, haven't had a need for it.
