how's the focusing speed on this lens? in reading reviews of the 35/45 tamron offerings, every review notes a slightly sluggish focus speed compared to canon, sigma, etc

I've used Canons 85 1.8 for a few years. Without VC on, it's just as fast. The VC as noted in a few videos pauses for a quarter second before locking on. It's the weirdest thing and the increment of time is very slight but it is there, given the bonus of VC I'm willing to deal with it. I will say my keeper rate is by far better than the Canon, and that thing was very good in my opinion.
These shots were straight out of the box, and I feel I need just a hair of MFA. But that's me nitpicking.

I'll post more examples this weekend. My Canon was my Go To lens, and I'm thrilled this one performed so well before tweaking. Has anyone played with the Tamron Docking set up yet? I'm curious how beneficial it is. I would get it if it performed as advertised, but would like to hear real world tests. My 35 SP would need to be adjusted by Tam to work with the dock from what I've read.

Just had this delivered, along with SP 45.

First impressions - Not as heavy as some reviewers have you believe. It looks very well made - with top-notch materials. AF is quite fast and very accurate. The focus ring feels smooth. A pleasure to hold and use with a 5D3.

And very sharp wide open. Colors and contrast look excellent.

Some initial shots in the garage. No PP done.

Hmm. I'm interested, never been too impressed with the canon flavor.

I may end up picking this lens up for the 5D4 now for videoing. VC and 85mm 1.8 for video will give a very good look and the ability of the DPAF in the 5D4 will be stellar.

I'll earmark this for after I've got around to selling my 6D and I'll go ahead and sell my canon 1.8 as well.
