Sold everything off almost 2 years ago. Contemplated going Nikon or Sony, but my heart is with Cannon. Going back to saving all my money for the top of the line power shot in 2000. That said, instead of buying the body first, I went ahead and bought a 135L first  i was thinking of just getting a used 6D in hopes that the 5Dx or 5DIV will have 4k video and the 6D can be a hold over for 6-8 months.

If it's a temporary thing this may be a bad time to buy a 6D. Assuming a 6D2 is announced soon the 6d resale value will plummet. you could stand to lose a lot of money over the 6-8 months.

Hmmm, not too sure about that really. Even after the 6D2 is released I don't see used 6D's going for much cheaper than $800-900. And for that price it's one killer camera.

That being said you'd be crazy to buy a new 6D at full retail right now.

Bad time to buy? Not if the alternative is missing 8 months of shots.

Im really wanting that 4k and more focus points. But the waiting 8 months kinda hurts. Used, the 6D are $1100 with 12k shutters, new $1400. Figure the 5DII still goes for $900

Buy a refurb directly from Canon. I got mine for $1200 2+ years ago.
Deals are out there. Look at canonpricewatch.com

I think original 7D is really good value right now and won't depreciate for some time. You can get a used one in the low to mid 400s in good condition, it does pretty good video as well considering its age, and I like the AF system despite having fewer points than more modern cameras.

5D Mark II is inferior but also costs less, in the low 700s, just another option to consider.

I also think the 1D Mark IV is a good buy if you find one below $1100 in decent condition. I actually like 1.3x crop, it's a nice compromise between reach and IQ for me, and AI servo is just so much more responsive in 1-series bodies.

The 6D's forte is low light, with the super sensitive center AF point. There's a reason why used prices don't really dip below grey market prices (both ~$1000), it's a good enough camera for people who don't shoot action much.

Canon 1Dx - Sigma 120-300 2.8
Canon 5DII - Canon 24-70 L 2.8
Canon 7D - Canon 40STM 2.8
Canon FT - 55 1.2

Picked up an excellent condition used 6D just a few weeks ago on this forum for $825. Keep an eye out and be ready to jump on the deals.

Just trying to be better than I was yesterday.

B&H, Adorama and other major camera stores are selling the 6D brand new, USA warranty, with a Pro-100 printer for $1099 after rebate. If you can find someone who doesn't already own one you might be able to sell the printer for another $100.

GetItDigital was selling brand-new gray-market 6D's for $999 on eBay. They sold over 2000 of them before that deal expired.

The point I'm making is that new prices are already pushing down used prices. The pressure is only going to increase when the 6D2 is announced.

Canon Refurb often has it for $999 with warranty. I'd go this route. Save $400.

Don't worry about what is supposed to come out in 8 months. I wouldn't buy a 6D2 at release anyways. I'd wait to see how Canon's 4k offerings actually perform before pre-ordering something that will no doubt be $2k+ and only a first 4k offering compared to Sony who has 4K right now and doing well with it. I'd wait for Canon's consumer level 4K to mature before just dropping a bunch of cash into it and hoping it's at least decent compared to a 2 year mature Sony 4K offering that will still likely be better (not a fan, just making a comparison).

Have you considered the A7S II?

Very best,

Doesn't the 1DX2 shoot 4K?

I've been watching the used market for almost 7 years now. And the model about to be replaced doesn't drop immediately in price on the used market. There isn't enough used of the new release to mandate it. There's too big a price gap between the versions. The 6d won't drop much right when the 6d2 finally gets announced. And I'd bet money on the 5d3 replacement being announced AND delivered before they announce the 6d2. I'm guessing people won't have a 6d2 in there hands for another year. And the 6d2 will most likely go at/around $2200-2500(initial retail pricing, not holiday sale) if they throw 4k in there too. 5d3 prices will drop to $1300-1700 depending on condition because the 5d4 will probably be priced around $3500. 1Dx will drop to $2000-2500. That leaves 6d used market to stick around $800-900 with people needing to sell theirs faster at the $700 range.

If you bought a used 6d or a refurbed from Canon for $1k and in 1year sell it for $700, I'd say you did damn good.
